what reasons would a snowmobile engine lose compression in one of the cylinders on a fan cooled engine?

Could be a stuck valve. Is it OHV? It could be a bent push rod.

Most likely a stuck or broken piston ring or a burned piston. Pull the jug off the low compression cylinder and see what you are up against. Both ar easy and inexpensive repairs.

Someone who already answered you question said it could be the valves. Apparently he’s never had a snowmobile engine apart before as these are two cycle motors.

Is the cylinder with low compression furthest away from the blower fan? If so how does the spark plug look? Does it seem burned or white? If s the carburetor pilot jet may be plugged leaning out your mixture.

Nice hole burned in the top of the piston I bet. Leaking seal or other issue caused a lean mixture and it ran too hot.
