What type of engine to work on a go kart?

I was wondering what the cost of an engine would be for a go kart (I plan on racing) also what are the pros and cons of using a motor cycle engine , snowmobile engine or other. thanks

    well when i was a kid we used lawn mower engines off the second lawn mower of someones or out of a garage sale. those were more expensive than the lawn mower but yes i guess you can.

    You can use motorcycle engines. There are vids on youtube that use gsxr motors and r1 motors. They cant even keep them straight….prettty awesoem trq numbers too!
