Dog fighter? Please answer!?
Posted on Feb 18, 2010 under snowmobile boots |Okay, so this man who my friend works for came over to our place to talk to *josh*. He was on a snowmobile and had his dog following. Anyway we had out dog pack outside and they all politly walked over..tails wagging etc. The mans dog is an intact male bordercollie/lab/lassie collie mix who is about 5 years old, named Butch. Butch viscously charged our 6 year old male fixed dobie, and started a huge fight. (pack mentality takes over). We got all out dogs off and when we got to the 2 dogs who were fighting (butch and our dobie) our dobie had butch by the neck and was shaking and biting viscoulsy. We got them apart and butch ran back to his master. The man BOOTED the poor dog. When we asked why he said Butch knows he has to win a fight when he picks a fight and he lost. WTF?!?! is that? Can this man be charged? can he sue us for damages? Should we call SC SPCA?
We didnt know he was comming over. Or we would have kept our dogs in
our dogs normaly are NOT aggressive. They are always comming to dog parks and stuff..very well socalized. The mans dog is just a farm dog.
We might have a pack..but we put in ALOT of work into each and every dog we have.
People do crazy things like over-acting hard when their dogs get shown up in front of other people.
If you incurred vet bills then ask him when and how he’d like to pay half of them. (Make him lose face by suing and you’ll get less than nothing and only make your lawyer rich.)
Call the SC SPCA if you like but my guess is this was a one-off bad behaviour thing.

I would be calling the SPCA.
Not a good idea to introduce a single dog to the whole pack at once.

What you need to do, is, take your dog to the vet, have him completely checked. Then take this guy to small claims court to pay (unless he voluntarily pays) This way you have it all documented, any of your other dogs involved, also have them check, have the vet note each small injury. Once in court, you can take it from there.

If he was on your property with an unleashed dog, then make him pay for the vet bill. If he refuses, take him up in small claims court. Unless you have evidence that he fights is dog for sport, you can’t prove he does.
Sounds like your dog is a bit aggressive too.
Good luck.

Charged with what? all involved dogs were off leash and not under control of their respective owners.
Could he? Sure you can sue for anything. Will he and will he win are another matter.
Call the SPCA if you wish but don’t be surprised if they don’t do anything.
And seriously what were you thinking allowing this dog onto your property, unleashed and not knowing anything about its background whatever it may be?
