Stupid lawsuits

Lawsuits provide an opportunity for wronged people to have a chance to get back at the people that did them wrong. However, the misuse of the system has increased considerably over the past few years. Why exactly do people think they can get away with suing everyone they come into contact with, and should stupid lawsuits be not allowed in the court?

Here is some of my top 10 favorite ‘‘stupid law suits.’’

10.
An inmate filed a $5 million lawsuit against himself (he claimed that he violated his own civil rights by getting arrested) — then asked the state to pay because he has no income in jail. He said, "I want to pay myself $5 million dollars, but ask the state to pay it on my behalf since I can’t work and am a ward of the state." The judge was not impressed by his ingenuity, and dismissed the suit as frivolous. Could you imagine someone stepping into a courtroom and saying this? Personally if I were a judge I would sentence him to an extra year in jail!

9.
Sometimes, being frugal can cost you more than anticipated. While apparently trying to steal a soft drink from a vending machine in 1998, 19-year-old Kevin Mackle was rocking it dangerously. Suddenly, the weight shift was too hot to handle and the contraption fell on him. The man died following the accident. His relatives sued Coca-Cola Co., two other companies, and Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec (for about $660,000 US in damages and funeral costs) alleging that the machine was not secured and bore no warning signs. That ridiculous! The man just killed himself over a $1.25.

8.
"Woman who drove drunk gets $300,000". An Ontario woman who got drunk at an office party and crashed her car has successfully sued her employer for allowing her to drive — even though her company offered a cab ride or accommodation if she gave up her keys. Linda Hunt, 52, won more than $300,000 in damages and interest from Sutton Group Realty Ltd., of Barrie, Ont., after arguing her boss should have stopped her from driving home in a snowstorm following a 1994 Christmas party." The judge assessed Hunt’s damages from the resulting accident at C$1.2 million, but reduced that by three quarters to reflect her own fault in the matter. He "went on to declare it the duty of employers to monitor the alcohol consumption of employees at company functions. The decision is expected to send a chill through offices across the country". Maybe next get a cab! Why don’t people ever use their brain?

7. A woman driving a car collided with a man who was riding a snowmobile. The man died at the scene. Since his snowmobile had suddenly cut in front of her, police said she was free of blame. She sued the man’s widow for the grave and crippling psychological injuries she suffered from watching the man die. After reading this I thought to myself ‘’how
6.
A Los Angeles attorney sued another attorney who had hung a cardboard tombstone in his office that read, "R.I.P./Jerry Garcia (a few too many parties perhaps?)." The plaintiff lawyer, a Garcia groupie, alleged this joke caused him "humiliation, mental anguish, and emotional and physical distress" after seeing the sign. He further added that he had suffered injury to his mind and body (specifics were not listed in the suit).

5.
A couple is suing Wal-Mart for injuries they claim were caused by canned goods and condiments that tumbled from an overfilled plastic grocery bag.
The bag broke when the couple, Ronald and Brenda Sager, were unloading their groceries at home. Brenda suffered “cracked and damaged toenails” and also claims to have a broken foot and ligament damage from the incident.
Brenda is suing Wal-Mart for $30,000.
Ronald also decided to get in the game, and he’s suing them for an additional $30,000 because “during Brenda’s healing process, he was deprived of her comfort and her attention.”
I don’t know what’s worse: The Sager’s victim-mentality, or the fact that a lawyer actually took this case.

4.
A woman in Israel is suing a TV station and its weatherman for $1,000 after he predicted a sunny day and it rained. The woman claims the forecast caused her to leave home lightly dressed. As a result, she caught the flu, missed 4 days of work, spent $38 on medication and suffered stress.

3. A man sued Michael Jordan because he says Michael Jordan looks like him. This supposedly causes people everywhere to approach him. He sued Michael Jordan AND the founder of Nike, Phil Knight, for $832 million dollars. And guess who was the lawyer representing this moron? Himself.
You know your multi-million dollar case is retarded when you can’t even get a lawyer. If this man had even 1 brain cell, he would use his Michael Jordan look-alike status to make money.
Obviously this man enjoys the attention because he shaves his head like Michael Jordan and also wears an earring. You can’

Hi, I’m a junior in high school and I am at the point in my life where I am making decisions about what my career is going to be. I am highly interested in computers and technology, and I am considering careers that would allow me to work on advancing technologies.

I am an honor student and I am taking AP courses, so I definitely plan to go to at least a 4 year university.

I want to work on technologies that are going to be a part of the future. I love the idea of computers integrated into daily life. It doesn’t necessarily have to be PCs. Pretty much anything to do with electronics interests me in some way.

I also want a career that will make good money and that I will be able to move up in. I want to drive a nice car when I am older and have a nice house and be able to afford toys (I love to ride dirtbikes and snowmobiles, and I am a musician, a hobby that burns money like crazy). I know I can’t expect to make a fortune immediately, but I don’t want to be stuck in a position where I can’t move up and onwards to better paying titles.

What kind of careers would suit me best? I’ve looked into computer engineering, but I was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions. I just want a nice career in technology that will make some good money.

I’m just a teenager looking forward to a bright future. Thanks in advance for any advice!

You sound like a very intelligent and motivated individual! Here is a website for general career information: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search ‘computer scientists’, ‘engineers’, ‘computer programmers’, ‘computer software engineers’ or whatever other career that piques one’s interest.

As for schooling, please steer clear of those online, for-profit schools such as penn foster, ITT tech, sanford brown, university of phoenix, strayer, keiser, walden, kaplan, devry, capella, everest and others as they are merely out to ‘make a profit’: http://www.capellauniversitysucks.us

http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.

US colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ

For possible volunteer opportunities nearby: http://www.volunteermatch.org

On a slightly different note, please remember especially when going away to college or at a party to Not leave your drink unattended with even a ‘friend’. It’s much more safe to just get another glass and from a known source. Please be well.

Hey,
I seem to be stuck on a part of the game, I would like you not to tell me what happens just kinda give me a GOOD, DESCRIPTIVE hint if you would.

Anyways, I went to the fishing pond to catch a two-foot Northeren Pike, I caught it and when I walked outside to take it back to skow Bill Kessler, a person in a black snowmobile suit hit me with an ice ball and knocked me out. I woke of to a wolfe howl and the sound of an eaxplosion. When Nancy opened her eyes, the fishing shack was gone, I was floating on a peice of ice with no coat. Then, the whole drug a coat over on the other side of the ice. I had to go to the other side and put the coat on, and then I followed the tracks to Avalanche Ridge there Nancy said I need snow shoes before I go farther. So I called Chantal and she told me I had to do a survey for Tino before she would give me the combination to the ones in the display case. I did the survey and got the snow shoes. Then I went back to Avalanche Ridge and folllowed the tracks. There I found a journal and a house or cabin. There was a combination, I couldn’t get in and there were no more wolfe tracks. So please give me a GOOD, DESCRIPTIVE hint. Do NOT tell me whaty happens. Oh, and I almost forgot in the pocket of the Coat, there was a peice of paper with weird writing, so what up with that….
Thank You,
all answers will do, Jessi
