Changes Coming to the Canadian Automotive Market

Changes Coming to the Canadian Automotive Market
The Canadian vehicle market has taken on an identity of its own over the last 15 years. Unlike their American counterparts, Canadians typically took the avenue of finding a new vehicle as appose to buying previously owned. This was by far most apparent in the automotive sector where 3 out of every 4 cars sold were considered âNew.â However, today brings uncertain times with a declining and uncertain economy every industry has felt the effects.
The Canadian Automotive sector is seeing quite the transformation in that the popular leases of the past are being phased out by franchised dealers in favour of financing. GMAC Club and Chrysler Financial have discontinued leases throughout North America. Ford Motor Credit hasnât exactly taken the same approach; they have instead increased their lease rates to the point that no one could even afford them. We must ask ourselves why? For starters, dealerships have seen too many lease terminations due to missed payments and in turn have now become stuck with an abundance of unexpected off lease vehicles in their inventory. Even more pressing is the difficulty that dealerships are having in trying to sell any cars in these scarce economic times. Furthermore, from a funding standpoint, money isnât as readily available due to the deteriorating credit of the finance arms and their parent automakers. This has made for a very difficult situation in the automotive sector and has instantly transformed the Canadian automotive market. In the U.S.A. one out of every four cars sold is used, Canadians should begin to anticipate similar sales ratios.
Research into the Canadian consumer has provided some interesting findings:
- Canadian consumers tend to be more risk averse than their counterparts in other markets.
- They are also more cost-conscious, with monthly payments a major driving factor behind purchase decisions.
- They tend to keep vehicles longer than in the United States, resulting in a less active used vehicle market.
The economy has initiated a dramatic, yet necessary change. Canadians will no longer be able to afford monthly payments and as leases conclude over the next 3 years an abundance of consumers will have to turn to the used vehicle market to find a vehicle they can readily afford.
Consumers now more than ever are shopping online for previously owned vehicles. Selection has been key to shopping in the past; however today new services exist the help buyers find the vehicle that promises to be right for them. The market, which was dominated by the Auto Trader brand has taken on new life with a company dedicated to finding potential buyers quality used vehicles. Using the provision of information, Vehicle Gateway Corp. has launched vehiclegateway.com to introduce an interface that meets the needs and wants of todayâs consumers. Vehicle Gateway has been designed around the provision of information; private sellersâ and dealersâ will now have to include Vehicle Identification Numbers, Certification status, full descriptions, condition reports, multiple photos, videoâs allowing buyers to hear vehicles operate as well as provide accident history and include reasons for selling the vehicle. This abundance of information will allow users to decipher through an abundance of ads to find the vehicle that not only meets their needs in terms of type, make, model or year, instead buyers can now go beyond this in finding the vehicle thatâs past and present meets up to their respective standards.
In turn, vehiclegateway.com anticipates weeding out those vehicles of inferiority, sellersâ will become nervous to advertise with Vehiclegateway.com for fear that the information provided would counteract the sale of their vehicle(s). Now inexperienced buyers will not only know the questions to ask, but answers will already be provided. This ultimately empowers the consumer and therefore makes for a more honest and less apprehensive buying process. In addition to the information provided, tools such as CarFaxâs Vehicle History reports provide full disclosure for prospective buyers and ultimately will live consumers with greater piece of mind when it comes down to the sale. In America, Vehicle History Reports are said to be in over 75% of pre-owned vehicles transactions. With even an even more risk averse nation combined with the anticipated growth of the secondary vehicle market, Vehicle Gateway Corp. believes that tomorrowâs transaction will likely include the use of vehicle history reports. Vehicle Gateway truly provides âInformation you need. Vehicles you want.â
vehiclegateway.com promises to be in the buyerâs corner to ensure a quality used vehicle purchase. Stupid lawsuits
Lawsuits provide an opportunity for wronged people to have a chance to get back at the people that did them wrong. However, the misuse of the system has increased considerably over the past few years. Why exactly do people think they can get away with suing everyone they come into contact with, and should stupid lawsuits be not allowed in the court?
Here is some of my top 10 favorite ‘‘stupid law suits.’’
10.
An inmate filed a $5 million lawsuit against himself (he claimed that he violated his own civil rights by getting arrested) — then asked the state to pay because he has no income in jail. He said, "I want to pay myself $5 million dollars, but ask the state to pay it on my behalf since I can’t work and am a ward of the state." The judge was not impressed by his ingenuity, and dismissed the suit as frivolous. Could you imagine someone stepping into a courtroom and saying this? Personally if I were a judge I would sentence him to an extra year in jail!
9.
Sometimes, being frugal can cost you more than anticipated. While apparently trying to steal a soft drink from a vending machine in 1998, 19-year-old Kevin Mackle was rocking it dangerously. Suddenly, the weight shift was too hot to handle and the contraption fell on him. The man died following the accident. His relatives sued Coca-Cola Co., two other companies, and Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec (for about $660,000 US in damages and funeral costs) alleging that the machine was not secured and bore no warning signs. That ridiculous! The man just killed himself over a $1.25.
8.
"Woman who drove drunk gets $300,000". An Ontario woman who got drunk at an office party and crashed her car has successfully sued her employer for allowing her to drive — even though her company offered a cab ride or accommodation if she gave up her keys. Linda Hunt, 52, won more than $300,000 in damages and interest from Sutton Group Realty Ltd., of Barrie, Ont., after arguing her boss should have stopped her from driving home in a snowstorm following a 1994 Christmas party." The judge assessed Hunt’s damages from the resulting accident at C$1.2 million, but reduced that by three quarters to reflect her own fault in the matter. He "went on to declare it the duty of employers to monitor the alcohol consumption of employees at company functions. The decision is expected to send a chill through offices across the country". Maybe next get a cab! Why don’t people ever use their brain?
7. A woman driving a car collided with a man who was riding a snowmobile. The man died at the scene. Since his snowmobile had suddenly cut in front of her, police said she was free of blame. She sued the man’s widow for the grave and crippling psychological injuries she suffered from watching the man die. After reading this I thought to myself ‘’how
6.
A Los Angeles attorney sued another attorney who had hung a cardboard tombstone in his office that read, "R.I.P./Jerry Garcia (a few too many parties perhaps?)." The plaintiff lawyer, a Garcia groupie, alleged this joke caused him "humiliation, mental anguish, and emotional and physical distress" after seeing the sign. He further added that he had suffered injury to his mind and body (specifics were not listed in the suit).
5.
A couple is suing Wal-Mart for injuries they claim were caused by canned goods and condiments that tumbled from an overfilled plastic grocery bag.
The bag broke when the couple, Ronald and Brenda Sager, were unloading their groceries at home. Brenda suffered “cracked and damaged toenails” and also claims to have a broken foot and ligament damage from the incident.
Brenda is suing Wal-Mart for $30,000.
Ronald also decided to get in the game, and he’s suing them for an additional $30,000 because “during Brenda’s healing process, he was deprived of her comfort and her attention.”
I don’t know what’s worse: The Sager’s victim-mentality, or the fact that a lawyer actually took this case.
4.
A woman in Israel is suing a TV station and its weatherman for $1,000 after he predicted a sunny day and it rained. The woman claims the forecast caused her to leave home lightly dressed. As a result, she caught the flu, missed 4 days of work, spent $38 on medication and suffered stress.
3. A man sued Michael Jordan because he says Michael Jordan looks like him. This supposedly causes people everywhere to approach him. He sued Michael Jordan AND the founder of Nike, Phil Knight, for $832 million dollars. And guess who was the lawyer representing this moron? Himself.
You know your multi-million dollar case is retarded when you can’t even get a lawyer. If this man had even 1 brain cell, he would use his Michael Jordan look-alike status to make money.
Obviously this man enjoys the attention because he shaves his head like Michael Jordan and also wears an earring. You can’

Three Wheeler’s: Honda 200s for $475 or Yamaha Tri Moto?
Posted on Oct 08, 2009 under snowmobile parts | 3 CommentsI have two Options:
Honda 200s for $475(us) that needs two brake cables.
Or
Yamaha Tri-Motor. I think he said 175 or 125 that needs nothing but the rider for $350(us)
What one do you think. I kinda like the Honda b/c of how often i see that i would think parts would be easier to get. And there is a 125.00 price difference in them so i could get my snowmobile this winter.
Its not going to be for anything but riding around. Maybe a couple of tricks but not for bogging or anything extreme.
What would you pick? And why?
No, i need brake cables not pads, sorry
Go for the honda it a bigger machine and parts are easy to get for it.

Filing for bankruptcy in ONTARIO CANADA- my husband and me- what do I need to know?
Posted on Oct 08, 2009 under snowmobile motor | 1 CommentThe past 18 months has been horrible financially for our family. My husband went from having a $55000/yr job, to being laid off and barely bringing in $1400 a month. I was a student just finishing 3 years of university. So, I have student loans and other stupid debt (personal loans for a laptop, school supplies not covered my student aid, misc stuff, rent).
We have 2 kids- a 7 yr old and a 2 yr old.
In the past 18 months, we have lost our home due to foreclosure, lost our car due to reposession, lost our savings due to my husband loving to spend money on things (a boat, a trailer, a motor, a snowmobile, etc).
I have a lot of "little" debts on my credit report- unpaid utility bills, student loan default, old cell phone bills, defaulted personal loans, etc. My husband and I had seperated for a while, and while seperated, it came down to paying rent & food or the "little bills". Now those little bills have reappeared to bite me in the ass.
My husband and I have been back together for about 6 months. We had to rent a house, and buy a cheap ($500) car to drive until we get back on our feet. Also, the trailer & boat got sold, as did the snowmobile. We used that $ to catch up on current bills, not to pay down debt.
In total, we have about $30000 of debt- that includes consumer debt, student loans, those "little" bills on our credit reports, and a personal loan (which we took out to try to stop the foreclosure on our house).
We have such awful credit. I am beyond stressed out, and have been handing out resumes like crazy, and searching for a job (not easy in a small small town!). My husband has a new job (one month) that pays $61000 a year (before taxes). He brings in about $2500 a month, I bring in about $340 a month.
Here is how our bills break down per month…
Rent- $1300
Utilities (heat hydro water) approx $300
Car insurance $100
Car gas $150
Groceries $350
Phone/Cable/Net $100
Pets $40
Diapers, wipes, toiletries $50
Debt Repayment $1100 (to make minimum payments)
Household (cleaners, repairs, etc) $40
Medications $100
Our loans are:
$11000 personal loan
$8400 student loan
and TONS of "little" bills that have sat on our credit for too long and need to be GONE- they total about $7000
And since they took our car, do we still need to pay them for the payments we missed while we had the car, and what happens to that loan, since it was reposessed?
We are seriously thinking about declaring bankruptcy to get all this sorted out. My thinking is- if we declare bankruptcy, then all of that is gone, and it will be easier to build our credit without having to play catch up, when our monthly cash crunch is dire as it is.
How does bankruptcy in ONTARIO CANADA work? We have no assets, but we desperatly want to clean up our credit and rebuild it so we can start fresh, and do things right this time… help!!
Go see a Credit Councillor ASAP.
I’ve never had to use one, but several people I know have had to…one a co-worker who was resolved to living out her bad debts. (Some her fault, some not.)
After she saw them and they put her on a scehdule, she actually started having funds left at the end of the month again…something she’d not had for quite some time.
Part of what the Councellors do is to teach you to deal with it, and they also negotiate on your behalf to obtain lower rates on your debts, and to help you by arranging a consolodation loan. Just make sure you avoid the ones that want cash up front.
If you declare bankruptcy…nothing is gone, and you have a black mark on your credit history for 7 years that means you’ll pay one hellova premium on any loans and credit.
Good Luck!
